Lake Tarawera is widely regarded as one of the best trout fishing lakes in the New Zealand, due to its natural beauty and the number and size of the fish it regularly produces. A typical catch is 5-6 pounds (2.5kg – 3kg). With fish up 10 pound (4.5 kg) a regular occurrence on the lake. The lake is renowned for its pristine natural environment and the majestic backdrop of the dormant volcano – Mount Tarawera. Guests depart from a private jetty located at Solitaire Lodge for a professionally guided lake excursion. Skipper and guide, Barry Grouby has decades of experience catching trophy Trout on the lake. Experienced and first time fishers are welcome. All lessons and gear will be provided. Children are welcome.
