"Winterless Northland" is rich in Maori history and culture. It’s also renowned for its clear waters, huge ancient Kauri forests, the Bay of Islands, Cape Reinga and 90 Miles Beach, it’s easy to understand why this is one of New Zealand’s favourite holiday destinations.
Take the opportunity to go fishing, sailing, dolphin swimming, nature walking, or just relax on one of the great beaches in the area.
Bay and Cape
As the name suggests this bus trip takes you to the Bay of Islands and Cape Reinga. It’s not your usual road trip up as the bus hits the sands and travels along 90 Mile Beach. On one side the sea will stretch to the horizon and on the other side the towering sand dunes will begin to grow taller and taller (great for sandboarding later!). Cape Reinga is a beautiful place where 2 oceans meet in a violent exchange of waters. It is also a very important place for the Maori people of New Zealand.
Auckland to Paihia (Bay Of Islands)
Take a trip to the winterless north and pack as much as you can into a weekend!
We arrive in the Bay of Islands around midday and check out the sights surrounding Paihia, including the historical location of Waitangi. Northland is rich in history and Maori culture and with its clear water, huge kauri forests, and 144 islands to explore you will soon see why Kiwi Experience heads up north. Swim with the dolphins, experience the Excitor Fast Boat, ride out to the famous hole in the rock, or go kayaking, sailing, fishing, diving, snorkelling, or just relax on the beach!
Paihia to Cape Reinga to Paihia
Don’t miss this awesome day trip to the very top of New Zealand.
Roll yourself out of bed and be prepared for an action packed day up to Cape Reinga. This area is sacred to the Maori people and the day trip to Cape Reinga is a MUST DO. The day is full of walks and free activities. Drive along 90 Mile Beach, see huge kauri trees, body board down the gigantic sand dunes, view the Tasman Sea and the Pacific Ocean clashing, gather shellfish on the beach, and experience one of New Zealand’s best fish ‘n’ chip shops!
Paihia to Auckland
Squeeze in those activities you haven’t completed yet before heading back to Auckland
Departing late afternoon, you have the best part of the day to experience one of the many activities on offer in the Bay, or simply chill on the beach with a good book. The drive back to the “big smoke”, which us Kiwis affectionately call Auckland, is relaxed and we have you back in the city in time to find some dinner and hit the town.
About Kiwi Experience
Kiwi Experience is New Zealand’s famous travel network, offering you some of the most unforgettable experiences and backpacker tours on the planet.
Our big green buses and Kiwi drivers have a legendary status on the road and around the globe.
The buses are hop-on hop-off, meaning there’s a continuous circuit of buses running around the place, so if you’ve got more time, you can get off anywhere you like on the circuit, and get back on when the next bus comes through. Highly Highly recommended is spending one or two extra nights in Queenstown, there’s so much to do, and you’ll more than likely want to experience a Milford Sound Day Trip without eating into your free day in Queenstown.
