Hand-picked by experts, New Zealand’s Experience Golf Courses complement our Marquee Courses and add a unique local flavour to your golfing holiday.
With close to 400 courses on its two main islands, visitors to New Zealand are spoiled for choice. Varying from a subtropical climate at the top of the North Island to an alpine setting at the bottom of the South Island, golf in New Zealand is a very unique experience.
The New Zealand Experience Courses are a collection of courses selected by a group of industry experts that define the diverse golfing offering. The collection showcases local culture, community spirit and country charm. Complementing our 14 Marquee Golf Courses throughout the country, this collection of 24 golf courses provides excellent value for money.
Each course in this collection is selected by experts on the basis of at least one defining characteristic – exceptional design, rich history or scenic beauty. While this collection has significant merits, many of the courses vary in the quality of their facilities, and some may not meet expectations of all golfers. Please check the golf course listing for more information.
Among the courses featured in this collection, one course of historical significance is the Otago Golf Club in Dunedin – the oldest club in the Southern Hemisphere. You’ll also find in here a mix courses that have hosted major events such as the NZ Open and the NZ PGA Championship.
Spanning almost 1600kms from the northernmost course to the southernmost course, the variety on offer is tremendous. Tee off at seaside links courses such as the Muriwai, Ohope, Waipu, Chisholm Links and Oreti Sands (the southernmost links course in the world). Prefer more of an alpine setting? Try Terrace Downs(opens in new window), Queenstown Golf Club, Arrowtown, or Cromwell. If you are more suited to a beautiful coastal setting, look no further than Waitangi Golf Club overlooking the Pacific and New Plymouth Golf Club(opens in new window) with views of both the Tasman Sea and the conical Mt Taranaki.
The Experience collection isn’t just about the golf. In close proximity to each course you will find superb accommodation, activities, food, and wine.
Rotorua Golf Club(opens in new window), known to the locals by its Maori name, Arikikapakapa (translated to the gentle sound of plopping mud), has geothermal vents on the golf course and sits across the street from one of the area’s biggest visitor attractions, Te Puia. Hastings Golf Club is on the doorstep to one of New Zealand’s premium wine regions in Hawke’s Bay,
For a true taste of New Zealand culture, community and breathtaking scenery, we recommend combining both our marquee and experience courses into your golfing holiday.
