About

On the road between Gore and Invercargill, the Mataura Museum is well worth a visit and its pint size means it won’t take a lot of time out of your day.

The Museum opened in March 2015 and was joint best museum project winner along with the Toitu Otago Settlers Museum at the New Zealand Museum Awards.

It uses innovative ways, including touch screens, to bring the town’s rich social and industrial heritage to life.

The Collection includes a strong set of local photographs dating back to the 1870s and a comprehensive local history archive.

The Museum is run by a dedicated team of volunteers.
