About

Come and see the original documents that shaped our nation: He Whakaputanga (Declaration of Independence 1835), Te Tiriti o Waitangi (The Treaty of Waitangi 1840) and Te Petihana Whakamana Pōti Wahine (the Women’s Suffrage Petition 1893) in the beautiful He Tohu Document Room. Explore the documents digitally and search for your tūpuna (ancestors) in the He Tohu Exhibition. He Tohu is a collaboration with Te Rua Mahara o te Kāwanatanga Archives New Zealand and opened in 2017. Head up to the Alexander Turnbull Library to research and read items from the National Collection or over Te Hono (the bridge) to the state-of-te-art Te Rua Archives New Zealand building. Experience the stunning architecture of the Te Kahu Heritage Campus. Free entry.
