About

National Library is situated just a stone’s throw from Parliament in Wellington’s heritage precinct. The Library boasts an array of resources and activities to educate and entertain; from Alexander Turnbull Library to He Tohu to The Store, there is something for everyone.

Come and see the documents that shaped our nation: He Whakaputanga (Declaration of Independence, 1835), Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the 1893 Women’s Suffrage Petition in the beautiful He Tohu Document Room. Explore these documents digitally and search for your ancestors in the He Tohu Exhibition. He Tohu is a collaboration with Archives New Zealand and opened in 2017. Head up to the Alexander Turnbull Library to research and read items from the National Collection.
