Once a bustling centre of gold mining activity on the West Coast, Kumara is now a major stopping point for the West Coast Wilderness cycling trail.

Kumara is a vibrant town with a colourful history. Pronounced Ku-MAR-a, this picturesque town was once home to New Zealand's longest serving Prime Minister, Richard John Seddon.

Learn about the town's rich history along the Heritage Walking Trail or visit nearby gold rush sites.

A key stop on the West Coast Wilderness Trail, you can also cycle shorter several sections from the township.
