Pedal through vineyards, coastal landscapes and historic country towns on four of New Zealand’s Great Rides.
These scenic trails connect some of the country’s best-known food and wine regions, with cellar doors, cafés, breweries and local produce along the way. Choose a relaxed day ride, join a guided tour or turn the journey into a multi-day cycling holiday.
Explore one of New Zealand’s best-known wine regions on a network of mostly flat trails linking vineyards, cellar-door restaurants, cafés and coastal scenery. Choose a short ride or combine several sections into a full-day or multi-day journey.
Winding through coastal settlements, orchards and rural landscapes around Nelson Tasman, this trail offers plenty of places to pause. Stop at wineries, craft breweries, cafés, fruit stalls and waterfront eateries, including those around Māpua and Motueka.
The Queenstown Trail links lakeside landscapes, historic Arrowtown and the Gibbston wine region. The Gibbston River Wine Trail(opens in new window) provides access to cellar doors, winery restaurants and local food, with bike hire, tours and return shuttles available.
Set out across Central Otago’s historic towns and open landscapes, stopping at country pubs, cafés and local eateries along the way. Sample regional wine and produce, including Central Otago lamb, cheese and seasonal stone fruit, either on the trail or in nearby towns.
Check current trail conditions and the opening hours of wineries, breweries and eateries before travelling. Book popular tastings and restaurants in advance, particularly during peak periods, and arrange bike hire, luggage transfers or shuttles where needed.
Some trail sections have limited food and water stops, so carry enough supplies for the ride. If tasting wine or beer, ride responsibly or consider a guided tour with transport included.
