Here you will receive a complete outline of what to expect, pick up equipment, and have an opportunity to purchase last minute items. you will also complete the required medical forms, and we can answer any last minute questions that you may have. It is also a great opportunity to meet your fellow walkers.
Day 1 : Queenstown - Te Anau - Glade House
The adventure begins at our Queenstown office where you board a coach to Te Anau, arriving in time for lunch. From Te Anau Downs harbour, a launch takes up to the head of Lake Te Anau. It's a short walk from the wharf to the historic Glade House. Here you will have a group photo, and afterwards the guides will take you on a short nature walk to explore the area. Gather in the lodge for a three-course dinner and a briefing, then it's time to get some rest in our snug beds.
Day 2: Glade House - Pompolona Lodge
After crossing the emerald green Clinton River you will walk up the valley, calling into the Wetlands Walk on the way. Lunch is at the Hirere Falls lunch shelter on the river's edge. The beech forest gets more luxuriant the farther you go, until you emerge on to the Prairie. From this meadow you can capture the true nature of the ice-carved Clinton Canyon. From here, it is a short climb to Pompolona Lodge and afternoon tea.
Day 3: Pompolona Lodge - Quintin Lodge via Mackinnon Pass
This is the most demanding day, especially in inclement weather. The track leads to Lake Mintaro at the head of the Clinton Valley, before climbing the Mackinnon Pass in a series of zig-zags. At the top you will be rewarded with spectacular panorama and have lunch and a hot drink in Pass Hut. Take your time on the rocky descent, beside the stunning cascades, into the Arthur Valley to Quintin Lodge. Welcome refreshments should rejuvenate you for the optional 90 minute round trip to the Sutherland Falls, the world's fifth highest waterfall. This optional walk is highly recommended.
Day 4: Quintin Lodge - Mitre Peak Lodge via Sandfly Point
Today, you will walk down the Arthur Valley to Boatshed. after a short breakhere, you will cross the Arthur River and walk on past Mackay Falls and Bell Rock (highlights of the day) and around Lake Ada, to the lunch spot at Giant's Gate waterfall. The final stretch of track rejoins the Arthur River to Sandfly Point.
