Situated between Levin and Palmerston North on State Highway 57 is the charming town of Shannon.  Find out what there is to see and do in Shannon.

The town of Shannon is known for its great coffee and cafes. The historic railway station which includes an information centre is a popular visitor activity.

Pay a visit to the historic Mangahao Power Station is nearby with it's international grade kayaking course–the Mangahao Slalom. 

The area is know for great fishing. You can find loads of swimming spots, both here and in the nearby settlement of Tokomaru.

For the more experienced adventurers there are beautiful but challenging tracks through the Tararua Forest Park to the Tararura District and or to Makahika near Levin.

Take your time, explore and enjoy the Horowhenua area.
