Green Gourmet

For a luxurious trip through the South Island, work your way around the Green Gourmet accommodation collection.

This New Zealand accommodation collection was been launched by Riverrun and The Resurgence lodges in 2012. Green Gourmet is an itinerary composed of small hosted luxury lodges along one of New Zealand’s most scenic tourist trails; from Nelson, down the West Coast past Glacier Country, through Wanaka, Queenstown and the Southern Lakes and Alps, then out via either Queenstown or Dunedin airports. See Green Journeys for more itineraries and boutique accommodations.

For discerning guests

The lodges are all out of town in stunning natural environments and cater for discerning guests who are interested in an itinerary that offers mid-priced luxury in a beautiful environment, a high standard of regional food and wine, space, views, personal hosting and some of the best activities on offer. Green Gourmet lodges offer a rejuvenating journey exploring some of our best scenery in New Zealand's South Island.

The collection

The collection currently includes The Resurgence lodge near Nelson and Abel Tasman National Park, Birds Ferry lodge near Westport and Punakaiki, Mahitahi lodge just south of Fox Glacier, Riverrun lodge near Lake Wanaka and Mt Aspiring National Park and Mt Rosa Lodge near Arrowtown and Queenstown.

Individual design, comfort and attention to detail, genuine and experienced hosting, authentic experiences, and the enjoyment of fine food that is local and fresh and the best the season and region has to offer. Pinot noir or sauvignon blanc from a wonderful vineyard down the road, peaches, apples, berries and and apricots from nearby orchards, lamb direct from the farmer, superb New Zealand venison, local olive oils and honeys, homemade breads and cookies, and the conversation in the evening that accompanies good food and wine.

Activities abound

The lodges are all in activity-rich areas and are between 1 1/2 hours to 4 hours drive apart. Nelson is known for its golden beaches, hiking in Abel Tasman National Park, sea-kayaking, Kahurangi National Park and closer to town it is a mecca for New Zealand arts and crafts. The West Coast offers a wilder New Zealand coastline, outstanding scenery and natural history, penguins, deserted beaches, lush rain forests, massive glaciers descending to sea level.

Through the Southern Alps and you arrive in the idyllic small resort town of Lake Wanaka, a hub of outdoor adventure, hiking, mountain biking, lakeside strolls or rigorous mountain climbs, jetboating, kayaking, and the gateway to Mt Aspiring National Park. A short drive further south is the Gibbston Valley, renowned for pinot noir and close to the historic and fascinating village of Arrowtown, international Gold courses, and just the right distance from New Zealand's premier tourist destination, Queenstown.

Choose your direction

Guests can travel the Green Gourmet trail in either direction - either flying into Queenstown airport and travelling north or by flying into Nelson airport and following the trail south. Alternatives are to take the Ferry across from Wellington to Picton and drive to Nelson or fly into Dunedin or Christchurch airports and thence to Wanaka and Queenstown.
