International Volunteer HQ focuses on providing opportunities for travellers to support important coastal and waterway conservation efforts in New Zealand.
International Volunteer HQ works in collaboration with the award winning charity, Sustainable Coastlines, supporting the delivery of coastal clean-ups, educational programs, public awareness campaigns and riparian planting projects.
As an IVHQ volunteer in New Zealand, you will support the restoration of traditional Māori land, engaging in a range of conservation-focused activities alongside local community members to restore native forest, land and surrounding freshwater ecosystems, while gaining first-hand cultural insights and indigenous knowledge.
Volunteer activities include weeding, collecting seeds, removing invasive species, organic small-scale farming, mulching, reforestation, composting and working in the native plant nursery, and wildlife monitoring. Volunteers also play a hands-on role in addressing the challenge of litter and its impacts on our marine environment, taking part in beach and waterway clean-ups, data collection, location scouting and educational activities.
Programmes commence on the first and third Monday of each month and you can choose to join the programme for durations ranging from 2 weeks to 12 weeks. All volunteer programmes include an airport pick-up service, programme orientation, accommodation and breakfast and lunch.
