Physical requirements, participants should be able to: Minimum weight - 45kg. Maximum weight - 120kg. Step up 50 cm unaided. Climb onto a 1-metre high object unaided. Climb a ladder unaided. Hike 2 km in rough terrain. Swimming competency: While swimming skills aren’t mandatory, participants should be comfortable in fast-running water, darkness and deep water. Right to Refuse Participation: We reserve the right to refuse participation if we believe a person is unfit for the activity.
Cancellation & Refund Policy Customer Cancellations: Full refund for cancellations made at least 48 hours before the tour. No refund for cancellations made less than 48 hours before the tour. Operator Cancellations: We reserve the right to cancel tours due to safety concerns, severe weather, or unforeseen circumstances. Flooding: Tours may be cancelled due to unsafe river conditions caused by heavy rain. If we cancel a tour, customers will receive a full refund or the option to reschedule.
The Waitomo Experience is the only operator with exclusive access to the Okohua Glowworm Cave on a fourth generation family farm in Waitomo. Guided in groups of no more than six, you'll walk, climb, wade, swim and float on tubes beneath thousands of glowworms while exploring natural limestone passages and underground springs. This is a physically active caving adventure for travellers looking for a more personal alternative to standard Waitomo cave tours. A reasonable level of fitness and mobility is recommended, and guests must be comfortable in deep or moving water. The experience takes approximately 3.5-4 hours and finishes with hot showers and cedar hot tubs. Minimum age is 12, with guests aged 12–16 accompanied by an adult.
