Prior backcountry ski touring experience & strong fitness required. Season: July to October. Early season (Jun–Jul): cold powder at lower altitudes. Peak season (Aug–Sep): deep stable snowpack, longer days and best weather windows for glacier trips. Spring (Oct): corn snow and longer descents. 5 or 7-day trips with flexible start dates - we may adjust departure by a day or two to catch the best weather. Helicopter access to all areas.
Non-refundable 20% deposit required. Trips under $1,000 NZD: full payment at booking. Over $1,000: balance due 60 days before departure. Bookings within 60 days require full payment. Cancellation refunds: 60+ days before - full refund less deposit 59–30 days - 50% of trip cost Under 30 days - no refund. No refund if cancelled or cut short once underway due to fitness, injury, illness or unforeseen events. Rescheduling subject to availability. Trip cancellation insurance recommended.
Peak Experience runs 5 to 7-day guided ski mountaineering expeditions into the glaciers and high peaks of New Zealand's Southern Alps. Helicopter access, alpine hut accommodation &daily ski touring or summit attempts on terrain most people only see in photographs. Three distinct areas: Aoraki/Mt Cook - vast glacier skiing above 2,000m with runs of 800m plus. Westland features heavy snowfall, wild Fox and Franz Josef glacier systems. Cass Valley/Arrowsmith Range - accessible ski mountaineering with reliable snow. Led by International Federation of Mountain Guides Associations (IFMGA) and New Zealand Mountain Guides Association (NZMGA) qualified mountain guides with extensive glacial terrain and avalanche expertise. Season: June to October.
