New Plymouth Coastal Walkway , Taranaki

Ideal for walking, running, cycling, e-scootering, or skating, the 12.7km sea-edge walkway boasts dramatic views, is great for all ages and abilities, and has numerous access points dotted along the way.

Beginning at Mangati Walkway in Bell Block, meander through picturesque farmland past the Waipu Lagoons before you connect with the coastal walkway at Hickford Park (another easy point of entry). Continue along the coastline to walk alongside the New Plymouth Golf Club before reaching Te Rewa Rewa Reserve.

Crossing the impressive Te Rewa Rewa Bridge, which frames Taranaki Maunga, head on to the Fitzroy Beach Holiday Park, and visit popular surf beaches at Fitzroy and East End.

Approaching the central section of the walkway, see New Plymouths iconic Len Lye Wind Wand, as well as other interesting public art. Here you can access the central business district - home to the award-winning heritage and information centre Puke Ariki and the monumental Govett-Brewster Art Gallery/Len Lye Centre.

Heading west, the walkway winds past the , Kawaroa Park and playground, and then heads to the marina at the Port and Ngāmotu Beach - a safe swimming beach for the family.
