겨울
뉴질랜드의 겨울은 다른 계절 못지 않게 활기에 넘친다. 산뜻하고 푸른 하늘, 증기로 가득한 지열 온천, 그리고 뜨거운 스키 열기로 생기가 용솟음친다.
뉴질랜드에서 6월부터 8월까지는 본격적인 스키 시즌인데 세계 수준급의 스키장이 남북섬의 여러 아름다운 곳에 자리잡고 있다. 비단 스키가 아니라도 뉴질랜드의 겨울을 즐길 수 있는 일이 많이 있다.
북섬 중부의 로토루아는 온천이 한창이고 남섬의 퀸스타운은 겨울 페스티벌로 활기를 띤다. 또 뉴질랜드의 3대 도시인 오클랜드와 웰링턴, 크라이스트처치는 주말을 이용해 디자이너 브랜드 쇼핑을 하거나 일류 레스토랑에서 식사를 하는 사람들의 모습이 눈에 띈다.
북섬의 루아페후 산에는 뉴질랜드 최대의 스키장이 있다. 뛰어난 자연미와 문화적 중요성을 인정받아 세계 복합 유산지로 지정된 통가리로 국립공원의 윤곽을 결정하다시피 하는 것이 바로 이 산이다.
남섬에는 총 7개의 대중 스키장과 많은 클럽 스키장이 있다. 그 중 퀸스타운의 코로넷 피크 스키장은 스키 이용객이 제일 즐겨 찾는 곳이고 캔터버리 지방의 마운트 헛 스키장은 남반구에서 가장 길고 안정된 시즌을 자랑한다. 스키 애호가라면 누구나 기다리는 린다우어 퀸스타운 겨울 페스티벌은 스키 시즌의 하이라이트다.
6월에는 마오리 새해인 마타리키를 경축하는 문화행사가 전국적으로 많이 벌어진다. 이어 8월에 가리비 철의 시작과 더불어 열리는 코로만델 가리비 축제는 맛있는 이 조개를 마음껏 맛볼 수 있는 행사다.

퀸스타운 마을에는 한 해에 몇 차례 밖에 눈이 내리지 않지만, 눈이 내리면 그 영향은 대단합니다. 대부분의 겨울철 동안, 산간 지방에서는 스노우 액티비티가 활발히 진행되며, 골짜기나 마을 인근에서는 여느 때와 같이 골프, 젯보트, 래프팅, 호수 크루즈, 하이킹, 쇼핑, 레스토랑 순회 등 각종 활동이 활발히 진행됩니다.

A 90-minute drive from Christchurch or Kaikoura, Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools & Spa is an extensive thermal complex with large native gardens in an alpine environment.
