Mangatainoka is home to the New Zealand famous Tui Brewery, the largest brewery in the North Island. Get the full New Zealand beer experience at Tui HQ.
Recently my partner and I had an awesome day out on a Tranzit Grape and Grain Escape to Tui Brewery visiting the legendary Tui Brewery and Headquarters, located in the small village of Mangataiknoka, New Zealand.
According to Tranzit’s brochure, and I concur, you can get ‘Tui anywhere in New Zealand – but there’s only one place you can experience it all and that’s at Tui HQ’.
As a day trip from Wellington this tour takes you by rail and coach right into the heart of the Wairarapa, through the stunning valley, small towns and countryside.
It was an all-inclusive tour so everything was organised for us which made for a very relaxing and enjoyable day out by all. (This tour ticked all the boxes for the girls and the boys).
The brewery is set amongst farmland alongside the Mangatainoka river. There’s so much to see and do including a museum, merchandise shop, iconic collectables and fun games.
The brewery was established in 1889 it was not until 1931 that the orange iconic Tui tower was constructed (A very humorous story accompanies this piece of history – one that I won’t spoil for you now!) Tui is also famous for their large and sometimes controversial ‘Yeah Right’ billboards you may see driving around the country.
Our time at Tui included a kiwi lunch, beer tastings, a visit to the museum, followed by a hard case fully guided tour of the brewery. This behind the scenes tour was both educational and quirky and topped off by further beer tastings.
The tour also allows for a visit to the award winning Wairarapa vineyard, Loopline. The wine tasting was warmly welcomed after a day at the beer brewery.
This is an ideal day trip visiting one of NZ’s iconic structures and famous beers. Enjoy tastings, the beautiful landscape of the east coast of New Zealand’s North Island and get a complete kiwiana experience, at the heart of the Classic New Zealand Wine Trail.
