This Experience is launching on Tuesday 18th July 2023. It is running Monday to Saturday at 3pm. Limited to 12 people so bookings are absolutely essential.
What is pounamu? (NZ jade, greenstone) Join us at Hikoi Waewae headquarters in Hokitika to experience including Karakia ( Maori blessing ), Mihi whakatau (introduction) and local Maori history of pounamu.
See, handle & learn the names of the different pounamu varieties. See & learn the meanings of popular pounamu designs. Rules regarding sourcing of pounamu. See & handle beautiful pounamu specimens found on local beaches. Short walk along beach front to the famous Hokitika sign. The legend of Poutini & Waitaiki, told by our local Maori guide.
