Over four days you will travel on foot across the Tasman Glacier, explore side glaciers and icefalls, and stay in remote high mountain huts surrounded by New Zealand’s highest mountains and longest glacier. This is an expedition-style trek where you carry what you need, move roped together across glacial terrain, and live simply in the heart of the Southern Alps.
Day 1: Drive from Lake Tekapo to Mt Cook and fly to the top of the Tasman Glacier. Ice-axe, crampon, glacier travel instruction.
Day 2: Hike up to Lendenfeld Saddle (2419m) for views over to the West Coast. Explore ice caves in Canyonlands.
Day 3: Aylmer Col and Tasman Saddle to look down into the Murchison Glacier.
Day 4: Trek down Tasman Glacier for heli pick-up at end of ice.
