We use an 8" telescope to get up close and personal with some to the most interesting deep sky objects.

Aotea is a treasured island, with many endangered species, stunning solitary beaches, great walking tracks and friendly locals. It is also off-grid. Some things you find in other world class destinations, you won't find here. We like it that way.

Please book a private experience for large groups, families with small children (2-8), tours with interpreters and if you want to drink alcohol or smoke/vape during your experience. Please refrain from using phones/lights during the experience. Taking photos after the experience is fine and we are happy to help you with this.

Aotea/Great Barrier Island is a Dark Sky Sanctuary only half an hours' scenic flight from Auckland Airport. The dunes of this pristine island are the most picturesque setting for stargazing in New Zealand. Here, Good Heavens' local guides entertain you with fun facts and fascinating stories. Small group experiences suited to individuals, couples and groups last 1.5-2 hrs. We seek out locations by the sea and use laser pointers, 8" telescopes and binoculars to guide you deep into space. Our private experiences suit large groups, interpreters or children under 8. We can arrange stargazing packages incl. accommodation, flights and a 4WD to make the most of your island time. You need to stay on Aotea overnight to marvel at the stars with us.
