Moutohorā /Whale Island, 9km off the Whakatane coast is a kayaking paradise. We sail to the island by catamaran, enjoy two hours of paddling and visit the hot water beach and geothermal area before home baked morning tea is served on board the yacht.

No other charges apply. All necessary equipment is provided and tour photos emailed to you after completion of the tour.
This trip is suitable for children who are experienced in outdoor activity. Children aged 8 -12 may share a double kayak with an adult. Under 8's ($130) can travel as non kayaking passengers if accompanied by an adult. All trips are weather dependent. Minimum numbers apply
Customers cancelling with less than 36 hours notice may be charged full price. If the tour is cancelled for weather or environmental reasons you will receive a full refund.
This magical trip begins with a biosecurity check at the Whakatane Yacht Club, followed by checking you on board Centaurus, a well appointed sailing catamaran. After a safety briefing from Baz, the skipper & with kayaks loaded, we head down the river & out on to the ocean for the 1 hour trip to Whale Island. En-route we’ll give you a little history of the area & of Whale Island itself and brief you on kayak safety. We start at the most sheltered corner of the island and give everyone an opportunity to become accustomed to kayaking on the ocean, before heading off on our tour. Wildlife encounters are common - New Zealand fur seals, little blue penguins or gannets plunging into the ocean. Exclusive (2+ persons) tours available on enquiry.
