Kaiteriteri, Nelson Tasman

This attractive beach town is 13 kilometres from Motueka and a handy gateway to the Abel Tasman National Park. During the warmer months, you’ll find locals and visitors here, basking in the sunshine, dining at the beachfront restaurant or enjoying one of the many water activities on offer.

But Kaiteriteri doesn’t sleep during the winter, and in fact, it is one of the most beautiful times to explore the park, on land and on water. The sea is calm, the morning air is crisp, and the local wildlife comes out to play.

Kaiteriteri has a beachfront campground, apartments, motels, an eco-resort, general store and a choice of places to eat. Short hikes include Withells Walk and Kaka Pah Point, but the Abel Tasman Coast Track is a must-do during your time here. The track can easily be broken up into shorter sections and cruise/walk and kayak/walk options are available.

If you’re looking for a real taste of New Zealand culture, we suggest joining in on a guided tour paddling a waka out to Split Apple Rock. There is truly something for everyone to enjoy in Kaiteriteri, from stand up paddleboarding to kayaking, from cruising to water taxiing, and from relaxing on the beach to hitting the mountain bike park.
