Step away from the crowds on a self-guided walk through Banks Peninsula’s unique landscapes. Traverse the eroded crater of an ancient volcano and witness pockets of regenerating native forest. Explore moderately steep farmland, expansive coastal views, and the historic French settlement of Akaroa while learning about the pioneering spirit of early European settlers. Journey through the 13,500-hectare Wildside Project to observe wildlife regeneration in action, with opportunities to see New Zealand fur seals and, from October to December, the largest mainland little penguin colony. Enjoy each night in comfortable, well-equipped farm dwellings for a truly immersive experience.
