Our knowledgeable guides share the stories of the 1886 eruption that reshaped the region, buried the Pink and White Terraces, and created the Waimangu geothermal valley. Along the way, learn about the cultural and spiritual significance of the mountain to Ngāti Rangitihi, who hold mana whenua as kaitiaki (guardians). Traverse volcanic ridgelines, stand on vast crater edges, and soak up 360° panoramic views across Rotorua’s lakes and the Bay of Plenty. There’s the chance to run down into the heart of the crater.
