There is a weight restriction of 100 kg on day or part-day rides, and 95kg on multi-day rides. Minimum age of 13 years. We try to match riders to appropriate horses, so an honest appraisal of riding ability is required. Please book the trek that best suits your riding ability. River Valley Stables offers a range of rides for experienced riders through dramatic hill country near Taihape in the Rangitikei District. Sweeping views of the Ruahine Ranges and Mount Ruapehu unfold as you move through some of the most striking rural landscape in the central North Island. Day treks suit confident intermediate riders, while our multi-day Home on the Range holidays are best suited to solid intermediate or experienced riders looking for a deeper challenge and real connection with their horse. We take a natural horsemanship approach - our horses are ridden in halters rather than bits, and are kept barefoot, with a professional trimmer caring for their hooves every six weeks. Accommodation is available at River Valley Lodge.
