Suitable for most ages & abilities. Do not touch the glowworms or ceiling. Keep quiet. No running/jumping inside the cave. No food/drinks. No smoking/vaping. Footwear must be worn at all times (jandals/sandals OK). No companion animals in the cave. Warning: CO2 levels in the tunnel may be higher than outdoors. Individuals with respiratory conditions are advised not to participate.
Located opposite Redwoods Treewalk & Nightlights, Redwoods Glowworms is a unique and accessible 70-metre eco-cave experience where visitors can see thousands of real glowworms up close. The fully guided 10–15 minute experience blends conservation, education and innovative design inside a purpose-built, bio-engineered habitat open day and night. Glowworms are not worms at all, but the larvae of a small gnat. To attract prey, they produce a shimmering blue-green light and suspend delicate silk threads, creating a magical, star-like display throughout the cave. Accessible, fascinating and unlike anything else in Rotorua, it is an easy way for visitors of all ages to step into another world and discover these remarkable creatures up-close.
