와인 마을 마틴버러 탐방

식민지 시대풍 매력이 가득한 마틴버러(Martinborough)의 유니언잭(영국 국기)처럼 설계된 중앙 광장에서 도보 거리에 30여 곳 이상의 와이너리가 있다. 몇몇 뉴질랜드 최상품 피노 누아 와인이 가족이 운영하는 소규모 포도농원에서 생산되고 있다.

• 먼저 마을 광장 주변에서 유서 깊은 건물들을 감상하고, 부티크 상점과 카페, 레스토랑을 탐방하자. 현지 식자재를 사용한 메뉴를 맛볼 수 있다.

• 와인 지도를 들고서 도보 또는 자전거를 타고 가족이 소유, 운영하는 포도원들을 방문하고 마틴버러가 피노 누아로 유명한 이유를 알아본다. 상을 받은 올리브농원 방문도 빼놓을 수 없다.

매력 넘치는 그레이타운

그레이타운(Greytown)은 빅토리아풍의 시골 마을이면서도 도회적인 스타일을 지닌 곳이다. 1854년 당시 뉴질랜드 내륙 타운으로는 최초로 도시 계획에 따라 세워졌고, 지금은 메인스트리트(Main Street)를 따라 무료 와이파이(Wi-Fi)를 제공하는 첨단 마을로 변모했다.

• 지갑을 열 준비를 하자. 그레이타운은 다양한 부티크 상점들과 갤러리, 골동품점과 카페 등으로 뉴질랜드에서도 고급 쇼핑가로 이름이 높다.
• 쇽 초콜릿(Schoc Chocolate)에서 초콜릿 에너지를 충전하고, 프렌치 베이커(The French Baker)에서 갓 구운 과자와 케이크를 맛보고, 세련된 카페와 레스토랑을 찾아 현지의 미식을 즐기자.
• 2인용 자전거를 대여해서 가까운 자연을 찾아간다.
• 뉴질랜드에서 보기 드물게 빅토리아 시대 목조 건물들로 채워진 중심가를 끝에서 끝까지 걷는다. 잘 보존된 유서 깊은 건물을 많이 볼 수 있다.
• 뉴질랜드 최초의 마오리 국회가 출범했던 파파와이 마라에(Papawai Marae, 영어 사이트)를 방문한다. 이곳에 1888년에 지어진 화레누이(Wharenue, 미팅하우스)가 서 있다.

카터튼의 예술과 공예

1857년 세워진 카터튼(Carterton)은 예술 중심지로 빠르게 성장하는 타운이다.

• 북쪽으로 잠깐 운전해서 글래드스턴 로드(Gladstone Road)와 데이킨스 로드(Dakins Road)를 따라 조성된 와인 지대 방문

가족 여행지 매스터턴

와이라라파 고장에 있는 5개 타운 중에서 가장 큰 매스터턴(Masterton)은 주변 농업지역의 중심지이자 활기찬 가족 여행지이다.

• 퀸엘리자베스 공원(Queen Elizabeth Park)에는 멋진 어린이 놀이터(Kids Own Playground)와 플라잉폭스, 미니골프, 롤러스케이트장이 있고, 선개교를 건너 사슴 공원으로 갈 수 있다. 피크닉 장소로 안성맞춤이다.
• 유서 깊은 후드 비행장(Hood Aerodrome)을 찾아가서 세계 1차대전 당시 하늘을 날았던 다수의 항공기가 전시된 빈티지 비행사 콜렉션(opens in new window)(The Vintage Aviator Collection. TVAL, 영어 사이트)을 방문하여 과거를 돌아본다.
• 북쪽 내륙 중심을 향해 달리다 보면 7층 규모의 투이 양조장이 솟아 있는 모습이 보인다. 투이 본사(opens in new window)(Tui HQ, 영어 사이트)를 방문하여 맥주 시음을 하거나 커피를 즐길 수도 있다.

A day at Castle Point Beach

Enjoy the great outdoors  Castle Point (Castlepoint) is a popular weekend destinations for locals.

• Let's climb onto the magnificent Castle Rock (162m).
• Walk to Castle Point Lighthouse, the last manned lighthouse built in New Zealand where the lighthouse keeper resides.
• The world's rarest daisy (Brachyglottis compactus), called Castlepoint Daisy, is native to Castlepoint Reserve.
• Find fossils rich in limestone rocks along the coast.
• New Zealand fur seals and several species of dolphins are common along the coast. Smaller whales can also be seen.

Rare wildlife viewing at Pukaha Mount Bruce National Wildlife Center

At Pukaha Mount Bruce, New Zealand's endangered species are bred, preserved and returned to the wild.

• Observe the wild kaka bird flying out of the forest for food it gives every day at 3pm.
• At 1:30 p.m. feeding the eels, you can see eel churning in the water.
• At the Kiwi House, observe the nocturnal kiwi looking for food in the ground through its long beak.
• In addition, you can meet rare native birds such as kokako, stitchbird, takahe, kakariki, and black duck at the wooded birdhouse.
• It continues to show audio-visual materials that are popular with children, and there are also educational experiential exhibits.
• There are several short hiking tracks in the forest with native trees such as the giant Rimu, Rata, Kahicatea, and Tawa.

Exploring Cape Palliser

Cape Palliser (Cape Palliser) is the southernmost tip of the North Island. Put your camera on, get ready for a picnic, and go on a day trip here.
