Situated in the middle of picturesque Wellington Harbour, Matiu/Somes Island is a wonderful predator free reserve and is a delightful place to walk around and enjoy the native plants and birds – not to mention the views!
Start your journey on a guided tour through Wellington Museum with its unique and somewhat quirky collection of artefacts inside the splendid 19th century Bond Store building, located on bustling Queens Wharf. Then head to the ferry for a short trip across the harbour whilst enjoying a classic kiwi lunch of scrumptious fish ‘n’ chips, with magnificent views of Wellington’s famous hilltop suburbs.
